Hello,
I would like to see if there is some way that the Graduate Student
Association would be able to address the change in FICA withholding and
get it changed back to what it was in years past.
Currently, we have to be enrolled in 5 credits during the summer to keep
from having FICA withheld. That is the same amount of credits during the
normal semesters and undergrads need only 6 credits during the summer!
That money adds up and we are eating up our credits having to register for
5 during the summer. I vaguely remember some of the mass e-mails most of
us ignore that might have had information, but I don't think we were given
enough warning. It may even be a state-wide rule, but it is ridiculous to
have to be registered for that number of credits in the summer.
