Firefox
If you are still using internet explorer switch over to Firefox, a widely used browser that supports many addons, including the following useful addons:
Clipmarks
Clip out portions of webpages for storage on your computer.
Line Marker
This addon allows you to highlight webpages in various colors. The highlighting will stay on the webpage each time you visit it from that computer.
Zotero
Zotero makes collecting, managing, and citing your sources easier. This addon can integrate with other software including Microsoft Word.
Remember the Milk
Remember the Milk is web based task management service that allows you to organize your tasks and setup reminders that can be sent via email, text message, or instant message. The service also allows you to share task lists with others for collaboration.
Jott
Jott allows you to capture thoughts, set reminders, and create to dos with a simple phone call. For a fee you can send emails and text messages with your voice.
Google Docs
Google docs allows you to create documents, spreadsheets, and
presentations online and share them with others. Think Microsoft Office online.

Microsoft offers many online services that are useful to college students including:
Microsoft Office Live Workspace
Live workspace is similar to Google Docs in that it lets you create, edit, and share documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online, The service also integrates shared calendars and to do lists.
Windows Live Skydrive and other features
Other features are available including file storage, alerts, email, photo galleries, shopping and video.
Box.net
Need to share files with someone but they are too large to email? Box.net allows you to store, share, and edit files online for easy access, collaboration, and storage.
ScanR
ScanR is a tool that allows you to scan copy and fax with your cell phone.
Youconvertit
Youconvertit allows you to convert one file format to another. The service supports everything from word documents to audio and video files to archival formats. No longer will you be stuck with a file you cant open.
Linkedin
Linkedin is a professional networking site; think Facebook for professionals. Setting up an account here is a great way to network with potential employers and others in your field. There are currently over 30 million
professionals using the site.
Ruckus
Of course college students like to listen to music like everyone else. Be sure to check out the legal free music service, supported by the North Dakota University System.
Security Software
Of course none of this will do you any good if you don't keep your computer safe and secure.
Firewall
You need a firewall to keep the hackers out, give Zonealarm or Comodo a try.
Antivirus
You can get a free copy of Mcafee antivirus from ITS, other options include AVG and Avast.
Antispyware
Spybot and Adware will help keep your computer clean.
